Why go
The Kumari Amman Temple is dedicated to the virgin goddess Kanyakumari. The Vivekananda Rock Memorial marks the spot where Swami Vivekananda meditated in 1892. The memorial has an attached meditation hall. The ferry to the rock departs from the jetty near the temple.
Kanyakumari is one of the few places in India where both sunrise and sunset can be seen over the sea. On a clear day, the colours of the sky at dawn and dusk are spectacular. The Gandhi Memorial is built at the spot where Gandhi's ashes were kept before immersion.
How to reach
Kanyakumari has its own railway station with direct trains from Delhi (Kanyakumari Express, 36+ hours). The nearest airport is Thiruvananthapuram (90 km). Buses from Thiruvananthapuram take 2 hours.
