Getting there

Bijapur (Vijayapura) is a city in Karnataka, the former capital of the Adil Shahi Sultanate. The city is known for the Gol Gumbaz (the mausoleum of Mohammed Adil Shah) — it has the second largest dome in the world (44 m in diameter) and the famous 'whispering gallery' where a whisper echoes seven times. The Ibrahim Rauza (the tomb of Ibrahim Adil Shah II) has intricate carvings and is said to be a prototype for the Taj Mahal. The city has several mosques, palaces and tombs from the Adil Shahi period. It is a great destination for student backpackers looking for an affordable trip. The area is well-connected to major Indian cities by road, rail and air. The destination offers a mix of experiences that cater to all kinds of travellers, from solo backpackers to small groups.
