Getting there
Chikmagalur is a hill station in the Malenadu region of Karnataka, at the foothills of the Mullayanagiri Range. It is known as the Coffee Country of Karnataka — the birthplace of coffee in India (coffee was first planted on the Baba Budangiri Hills in 1670). The town is surrounded by coffee plantations, green hills and waterfalls. The Mullayanagiri Peak (1,930 m) is the highest peak in Karnataka — a 5 km trek to the top. The Baba Budangiri Dargah and the Manikyadhara Falls are on the same hill range. Chikmagalur also has the Hebbe Falls, the Hirekolale Lake and the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary. It is a great destination for student backpackers looking for an affordable trip. The destination offers a mix of experiences that cater to all kinds of travellers, from solo backpackers to small groups.
